The fields of international development, humanitarian aid, and global service are changing dramatically. The questions Jewish and Israeli practitioners face today are not simply about how we respond to global crises, but what responsibility looks like in this moment, and how Jewish values shape what comes next.

Focal Point 2026 conference brings together practitioners, Jewish leaders, and funders who support vulnerable communities globally to wrestle with these questions honestly, thoughtfully, and in community.

Join us for two days of deep conversation and practical learning, hear directly from experts on the ground driving change in these fields, and strengthen the relationships that make our collective impact possible!

What people are saying about Focal Point

“This opportunity would not have been an option without OLAM. NALA’s network increased drastically from the visit, and it completely changed the way I think about engaging with the Jewish community in North America. The encounters really helped ‘fill my battery’ after an intense period that left me somewhat drained.”

Jacob Sztokman, Founding Director, Gabriel Project Mumbai

Focal Point was incredible in so many ways, from the networking and inspiration to the strong sense of community it created. It deepened my understanding of international development, and the connections I made have supported my career growth. I continue to reflect on both the content and the conversations I had there.

Maya Kroitoru, Individual Member

The opening plenary gave me a great overview of who's in the room and the big issues they are facing. I especially appreciated the fact that everything was framed in the context of Jewish text and values. It was inspiring to see how many Jewish organizations are doing this humanitarian work, and I am left wanting to learn more about each one's unique contribution.

Rabbi Dina Brawer

I came away energized after spending time with truly dedicated professionals. I also gained new insights on climate-related disasters and our responsibilities in that field, even if climate is not a primary focus of my organization.

Debra Slonim, Israel Trauma Coalition

Focal Point was a fantastic space to connect with other professionals and colleagues, and to talk about the pillar issues that concern us all.

Jesica Scheimberg, AJEEC-NISPED

Focal Point was an enriching experience that allowed me to learn from experts, network with Jewish peers, and apply the latest trends to my work in bridging development and the private sector in Africa.

Desiree Zwanck, OLAM Individual Member

I learned so much about professional development at Focal Point, while also gaining knowledge from like-minded people - tools that have proven super helpful when I deal with certain issues within my own organization.

Nicole Collins, JBN Foundation, Jewish communal professional

I learned about the Jewish world's beautiful impact across the globe, what motivates the people involved, the challenges they face, and the ways they overcome those challenges. I now have a better understanding of how I can do more, and how to get the people I work with involved.

Travel to Focal Point & Needs-Based Travel Subsidies

Travel to and from Focal Point is the responsibility of each participant. We recommend that anyone flying into New York for Focal Point purchase refundable or flexible airline tickets in case you need to cancel your attendance for any reason.

OLAM is committed to making Focal Point as financially accessible as possible and has secured a limited pool of need-based travel subsidies. Eligible individual members and partner organizations (up to one staff member per organization) are invited to apply. Subsidies will be awarded based on demonstrated need and the availability of funds.

From the UK/Europe: up to $700
From Northeast US: Up to $150
From rest of US: Up to $400

All travel subsidies will be paid as reimbursements, following Focal Point. If you are in need of a travel subsidy, please complete this form and OLAM will respond to your request within a week of submission.

All food will be strictly kosher, mostly vegan, ethical, and delicious!

What to Wear

There’s no dress code for Focal Point, but we recommend business-casual attire during the conference sessions.

Early June in New York City is warm, but rain is possible, so we suggest bringing layers to stay comfortable both indoors and outside.

Sustainability Measures

OLAM is committed to minimizing our carbon footprint in all our programs and engaging in sustainable climate practices when possible.

Travel: If you choose to offset your travel, you may use this tool to find out the approximate amount of carbon emissions associated with your flight(s). Then you can use this website to pick a project that feels relevant/ affordable to you.

We also recommend combining objectives during your trip to New York (for example by scheduling meetings and speaking arrangements) in order to reduce the need for future trips.

Food sustainability: In order to reduce our collective greenhouse gas emissions, we continue to offer a fully vegetarian menu, with many vegan options that will appeal to many palates.

Reducing waste: We ask that all participants to bring reusable mugs and water bottles to reduce disposable cup use. We are also digitizing conference materials when possible and skipping the distribution of swag items that often end up in the trash.

Learning: Focal Point will feature discussions on ethical climate practices and will explore how practitioners can improve the environmental impact of their work.

FAQs

I plan to come to Focal Point from Israel. What happens if the situation there escalates and I'm not longer able to travel to New York?

OLAM is carefully monitoring the situation in Israel. If an escalation in the war prevents registrants from coming to Focal Point, OLAM will:

  • Reimburse the registration fee, minus a $50 non-refundable administrative fee.
  • Make all efforts to bring in attendees from Israel virtually, and adjust the conference schedule to account for the time difference.

Those coming to Focal Point from Israel or other war-affected areas around the world are responsible for purchasing travel insurance and/or refundable tickets, in case an escalation in the situation prevents you from traveling. OLAM will not reimburse flights that were cancelled due to the war.

Is financial help available for Focal Point participants?

OLAM offers limited subsidies for partners and members, including subsidizing up to 2 nights of accommodation in a double-occupancy room at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel for the first 80 people who request it (on the registration form).

The subsidized nights are Monday, May 27 and Tuesday, May 28. Details can be found on the registration form.
