About OLAM

OLAM is a network of Jewish and/or Israeli individuals and organizations working in the fields of international development, humanitarian aid, and global volunteering. Inspired by Jewish values and committed to high ethical standards, OLAM convenes and mobilizes Jewish leaders, organizations, practitioners, and others to take meaningful action in support of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Position Overview

OLAM is seeking to hire a full-time Director of Jewish Communal Engagement and Learning, based anywhere along the New York-Washington, D.C. corridor. This senior position is responsible for leading one of the central pillars of OLAM’s strategy: empowering Jewish leaders to become champions of global service, international development, and humanitarian aid. It combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

OLAM defines “Jewish leaders” as individuals with influence in the Jewish community, who can advocate for and support OLAM’s vision and mission. This includes Jewish communal professionals, funders, lay leaders, educators, rabbis, and young adult leaders.

The ideal candidate for this role:

  • Strategic thinker with bold ideas
  • Highly skilled in relationship and partnership building
  • Experienced in program design and delivery
  • Possess a deep understanding of the American Jewish community, its leadership, and institutions – particularly young adult engagement organizations and/or philanthropic networks
  • Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Passionate about the intersection of Jewish values, global service, and international development

OLAM is global both in mission and in structure. Our team spans Israel, the U.S., and the U.K. The majority of the work will be remote, with occasional travel in the U.S. and abroad. Some flexibility in work hours – early mornings, evenings, and weekends – is necessary to accommodate meetings across time zones, events, or deadlines. OLAM is committed to balancing flexibility with employee well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic leadership

  • Working closely with the CEO, identify and prioritize opportunities to raise the profile of global Jewish service and international development in the American Jewish community.
  • Together with the CEO, identify and cultivate new funding sources – and maintain relationships with existing funders – to advance OLAM’s leadership engagement strategy.
  • Oversee outcome measures and evaluation plans for all programs in the leadership engagement strategy.
  • Coordinate with other staff to ensure the leadership engagement strategy complements and aligns with OLAM’s other core strategic pillars.

Partnership Development

  • Cultivate and deepen existing partnerships with American Jewish communal organizations (Hillel International, Repair the World, etc.).
  • Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities to engage American Jewish leaders with global service and international development, with a focus on young adult organizations and philanthropic networks.
  • Navigate complex dynamics within and among organizations in the broader American Jewish community with sensitivity and care.

Program and Content Design Infused with Jewish Learning

  • Design and facilitate trainings, workshops, and educational content to engage Jewish leaders and organizations in global service and international development, from hour-long sessions to multi-day experiences and study trips.
  • Embed Jewish values and wisdom consistently across all leadership engagement programs.
  • Manage relevant program budgets and operations effectively.
  • Work closely with other staff to infuse Jewish values and learning into practitioner-focused programs.

External Engagement and Representation

  • Serve as a visible and articulate ambassador for OLAM, representing the organization at conferences and other public speaking opportunities in the American Jewish community, to enhance visibility, strengthen existing partnerships, and cultivate new ones.
  • Cultivate relationships with senior-level American Jewish leaders, positioning OLAM as a trusted resource and a thought leader.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in the nonprofit sector and/or the American Jewish community.
  • In-depth knowledge of the American Jewish community and its institutions, with a focus on young adult engagement organizations and philanthropic networks.
  • Proven success in leading strategy and driving initiatives that advance mission-critical goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and grow strategic partnerships, including navigating political sensitivities within and across organizations.
  • Proven track record of successful program design and delivery, and educational resource development.
  • A passion for Jewish learning and the ability to connect Jewish values and texts to global service and international development.
  • Skilled at planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects simultaneously, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Outgoing personality; comfortable networking and engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent OLAM in diverse settings and adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Collaborative team player with a flexible, proactive, and positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Commitment to OLAM’s mission and values.
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in a relevant field.

Nice to Have:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior training in facilitation or experiential Jewish education.
  • Experience working in a global setting, with colleagues across time zones.
  • First-hand experience as a participant and/or professional in a global service, international development, or humanitarian aid setting

Compensation and benefits:

Compensation is $90,000-$110,000, depending on experience.
